|
Great Escape Day
The Albany Benefit Fund will hold its annual Great Escape Day on Saturday,
July 12 at Six Flags Great Escape. Ticket prices are $29 for
members and $35 for non-members. Price includes admission,
lunch (hamburgers, hotdogs, salads and chips), and beer and soda
from 12-6 pm at the picnic pavilion. See Marty Hardt for
more information and tickets.

Grievance Status Information
To keep the
members better informed of the status of their grievances, a
listing or docket of grievances filed with Tom in 2008 has been
added to the web site on the Grievances
page. For privacy, all names have been removed.
Refer to the grievance number on your grievance to locate the
corresponding number on the docket. You can view the
docket in database
format or PDF
format.

Another fill-in form for part-timers
has been placed on the Grievances

which concerns over 5 and 1/2 hour violations.

Chief
Steward's Report
You will notice the menu to the left has a new item called
"Report". This refers to a just added page that
will contain regular reports of news and notes from the Chief
Steward. A new report has been posted. Read it here.

Teamsters
Welcome Packet
We have updated the Teamsters Welcome Packet for UPS, Albany
members and posted
it here on the web site. This a great resource for new
members (and existing members) that provides information on
our Union's structure, the benefits provided and our rights and
responsibilities on the job.

A new information sheet has been
added under "Printable Resources" which explains union
members' Weingarten
Rights when
management conducts an investigatory interview This is
information that every member should know..

New Grievance Form
The Grievances
page has a new printable
fill-in grievance form for protesting
warning letters.

Benefit Eligibility Information
A new printable benefit
eligibility information sheet has been posted which provides
details of what hours in which months are necessary to
maintain benefits.

Changes to the Stewards List
The official list of
stewards that cover the Latham building broken down by
classification has been revised. View the updated list here

New District Labor Manager
The company has announced that Jim
Dolan from Philadelphia is the new District Labor Manager
replacing Karl Pratt. Unsettled grievances and discipline issues
will be brought to him by the Union.

Ground
Packages in Drop Boxes Issue
As some of you may know, UPS announced on Feb. 15
that ground packages are now accepted in UPS drop boxes. The company has
instructed the Air Drivers to affix stickers with this information to
its drop boxes and that Air Drivers will pick up these ground packages
at their regular pay rate. UPS is apparently claiming that
it has the green light from the International to do this, which
violates Article 40 of the contract.
In consultation with BA Frank Kearney and per the IBT,
we have been informed that no such agreement between the company and the
union exists and that Air Drivers who are instructed to pick up ground
packages in drop boxes should work as directed but file a blanket
grievance after their shifts.

A Reminder

of January 1, 2008 VSP
Vision Care is the new administrator of vision care benefits.
The NYS Teamsters Benefit Funds web site details
the coverage now provided. Our Benefits
page has this information along with an out of network reimbursement
form.

There is a Local 294 general
membership meeting on Sunday, October 5, 2008 @ 10:00 am at the
Union Hall.
