Part-time Hours For Benefits  

   The trustees of the NYS Teamsters Health & Hospital Fund have just announced in a letter that hours required for part-timer's benefits will increase from 130 hours beginning September 1.  The hours required per quarter will be as follows:

• Regular Part-timers  -  210 hours

• PT Air and Gateway    -  180 hours

• PT at Stewart & Hancock Airports                         -  144 hours

• PT Cover Drivers         -  192 hours

    This change begins with the September, October and November benefit qualifying quarters for benefits payable on January, February and March of 2010.

   Local 294 President John Bulgaro has informed the Albany Stewards that there will be no change to the hours worked necessary in a 3 month period for part-timers to earn benefits for the upcoming quarter.  Rumors and an earlier announcement had indicated that the hours worked needed would be increased to 210 beginning June 1.  However, hours necessary will still remain at 130 through at least August 31.  We will update with any changes that may occur.

    Tom has updated his 2009 grievance docket on the Grievances page.  Activity presented is current through 5/3/09.  As always, grievants' names have been cleared to protect their privacy.  Please reference your grievance via the number assigned to your grievance and listed on the left column of the docket.

UPS Contracts Posted                  

   The PDF versions of the most recent UPS National Master Agreement and Upstate NY Supplement (blue book) have finally been added to the site. Their permanent links will be located on the right side of the page under "Searchable Resources".  We hope to add bookmarks and a new Quick Index soon to aid in navigating the online version of these contracts.

Bargaining Grievance       

    Another fill-in grievance has been added to the Grievances page.  This one involves grieving a mid-contract change in working conditions where the company has unilaterally imposed the change (or issued discipline because of it) when the union hasn't been informed of the change in advance and been given the opportunity to bargain over it.  
     The concept is called "mandatory bargaining" and is fully explained in the book "The Legal Rights of Union Stewards", a book we highly recommend for stewards and non-stewards alike.

Recent Additions      

    New additions to the site include a fill-in letter for requesting a pension projection from the NYS Teamsters Pension Fund under printable resources on this page, a printable grievance on the Grievances page for those who are being displaced from their jobs after 8 hours by less senior members, and a new page with information about the recommended  Time Worked Calculator program for keeping track of weekly hours.

   There is a Local 294 meeting on Sunday, September13, 2009 @ 10:00 am at the Union Hall.  Business will be limited to the election of officers.
   There is a Local 294 general membership meeting on Sunday, October 4, 2009 @ 10:00 am at the Union Hall.
