Quinn's Feeder Corner for 02/22/11
The steward election was
held Feb. 6. Thank you for all your support. We had
103 members attend, three votes tossed out, and I received 57 of
them. Thank you again.
I was given only one grievance to
settle in the Feeder Dept. the Monday after the election from
the previous group. Chuck had called all the stewards to have
all grievances to be settled forwarded to him. If you know of or
have a copy of any old paper, please contact Chuck or me so we
know what's out there.
On that Monday night, I spoke briefly with my
dept. manager, Chris S.. Chris and I know each other from
earlier discussions. We entered the bidding cycle right
off the bat. I had a basic understanding of what jobs they were
going to bid and found a couple of typos on the bid sheet.
I contacted who I was told to call and some changes were made.
However, I spoke with Chris S. about one issue that was
important to the members and me and was also done this way
before.
For example, CPUs need to be listed this way:
START TIME /DESTINATION:
A. P/U B. P/U C.
P/U D. P/U
( Meal Period)
E. P/U
I explained our position to
Chris and he agreed to list CPUs in a white binder labeled
Feeder CPUs. Also, Chris spoke about safety, unplanned
absences, and scheduling the appropriate classes (i.e. A/P
badges). With your
support, we can make this transition smooth. If you have
any concerns, please contact me either by house mail, verbally
or phone (518-966-4440).
A meeting was held
on February 19, 0900, at the Hall with L294 President John Bulgaro, Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Hunter, Business Agent Frank
Kearney, Chuck and me. Mr. Bulgaro spoke about the positive direction of our union and
pledged his support with a handshake. Chuck and I welcomed
his support in moving forward this year in resolving some of our
many issues.
I will try to publish a
report monthly with various concerns and results. I would
greatly appreciate any help from anyone who is willing to help.
In closing, I would like to extend
a thank you to Mr. Leap for helping get this first report out to
all of you. Thanks, Ken.
